The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) has “conditionally” agreed to suspend it 9-month old strike action following a meeting with the federal government in Abuja on Tuesday
The ASUU National President, Biodun Ogunyemi broke the long awaited good news during a briefing of the union in Abuja, explaining that the development followed consultations with its National Executive Council (NEC).
Biodun Ogunyemi went on to warn that the suspended strike action is with a condition and stated clearly that the union would not hesitate to return to strike Without notice if the government fails in meeting its part of the agreement reached with the university lecturers.
Professor Ogunyemi also thanked the entire Nigerian students and their parents for their understanding throughout the nine-month period and said that
“no amount of sacrifice would be too much to get the matter resolved as long as the government is consistent with its commitments.”
